A Bowen Treatment is usually given on a therapy table, using pillows or cushions to keep the client comfortable. Alternatively, a single bed or chair can be used.

A quiet room is preferable. Every few moves, the therapist will leave the room for a few minutes in order to let the body relax and re-adjust.

Clients' experiences during these breaks vary greatly. Some feel warmth as though hands are still on their back, some fall asleep and others feel a deep sense of relaxation.

At the beginning, the therapist will take a brief medical history. In general, a treatment session will last approximately one hour.

All moves can be made through light clothing.
